It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody familiar, but Nigo is just as enthusiastic about music as he is fashion design. Operating as a full time DJ and producer in the early days of Bape and later with the Teriyaki Boyz. A lot of the music that Nigo produced can be found on old vinyl pressings of his “Bape Sounds” collections. Or more recently on “I Know Nigo” and album executive produced by The General himself, with notable features from Asap Rocky, Kid Cudi and others. His love for music often appears in his design work as well. Making frequent references to rock and hiphop and sampling their designs into his own.
This is the Bapesta that Nigo released in 2005, collaborating with iconic Japanese record store, Manhattan Records, which also released the pair. Their flagship location in Shibuya has been serving DJs just like Nigo for decades. For a music fanatic, Manhattan records is just as important as an institution in Shibuya as the Hachiko Statue, and this release saw a massive intermingling of streetwear and music enthusiasts. As a result of that special release, this pair is highly coveted by collectors and rarely enters the market for sale.
Made from signature Bape patent leather in Carolina Blue and White and finished off with the Manhattan Records logo embroidered on the heel.
